  1. Yep….\”useless – bob.hits (Lowly Newb) at 02:03:20 AM on 6/22/2006It’s blue ray or bust…\”Second.

  2. blu ray? get the fuck outta hereOh yea. Sony is known for the dominance of the betamax and umd, their other two attempts at format wars. I can see blu ray going the same way the umd did. It will lose studio support because it will be too expensive and most people aren’t going to justify the cost of a true 1080p set up. I certainly wouldn’t be the early adapter of a sony format judging from their past attempts.

  3. Sony wins this time.Sony would have to fuck up big time not to win this one out against Toshiba. They have contracts with way more movie studios to have them make HD movies on BluRay than toshiba has for HD-DVD. Not to mention one of the biggest production studios is Sony Entertainment. … but UMD yeah new formats usually dont take very well if the only thing using that format is a proprietary gaming system put out by your own company. Now if they had incorporated UMD technology into their laptops, cameras, and cell phone/PDAs then maybe it would be a different story.

  4. I still don’t buy itaardvark, I respect what you are saying. The problem stems back to how quick the umd fizzeld though. It wasn’t about how many studios they had supporting them. UMD’s were being released by everybody. It just wasn’t cost effective and they weren’t even breaking even on the budget. Now the only company to still do umd’s is the Sony owned Columbia/Tri Star. The problem will lie withing totally new technology. Sony is already having problems with production cost and hardware problems. It’s been no hidden secret that blu ray has been delayed a few times due to buggy hardware and Sony trying to iron out problems at the last minute. Sony, Pioneer, and Samsung have now twice had to delay their blu ray players. Most recently from this month to august/september. I just don’t think people are aware of how much is really going on. Not to mention there is no perks in blu ray since the 1080p image constraint token won’t be in place for a rumored 4-5 years. Just like HD-DVD’s out now that are labeled in 1080p, you are really getting 1080i at max. That’s why the cheap ps3 model will be able to play blu ray movies without the HDMI interface. Because they will be able to down convert since there is no ICT. There won’t be true 1080p until the ICT forces it.

  5. Porn.Porn. That’s the answer. Sony refused to allow porn to be released on Betamax or UMD, which is why they failed. That’s a massive rental and purchase market that they lost out to. If Sony support pr0n for Blu-Ray, it will win. If they don’t, it’s an even fight.

  6. hahahaPSP has a huge umd porn selection in japan. Sadly, it’s the only umd’s that sell over there. And they still don’t sell that good.

  7. god jobWhen you hear \”human rights,\” think gays. When you hear \”human rights,\” think only one thing: someone who wants to rape your son. And you’ll get it just right. OK, you got it, right? When you hear \”human rights,\” think only someone who wants to molest your son, and send you to jail if you defend him.
